Kena: Bridge of Spirits is Ember Lab’s first video game release, recently launching on PS5 as a console exclusive. While it may feel mechanically familiar, every moment in Kena: Bridge of Spirits is powerful thanks to its breathtaking visual design and the most gripping soundtrack of the year. Otherwise, FromSoftware offers up a robust mechanical evolution to its Soulsborne formula, providing an unmatched level of character diversity, allowing the player to tackle the many horrors of this world in whatever fashion they please. The Lands Between continues to surprise me even after riding through them for dozens of hours, but those repetitive moments are a slog.

But alternatively, the game is plagued by some tedious objectives, frequent boss and enemy reuse, and exhausting mini-dungeons. Its immense scale and sense of freedom contrasts wonderfully with the terrors that linger throughout its derelict plains.

Outside of 2020, there are amazing PC games, like The Witcher III: Wild Hunt (fantasy adventure), Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (how to die simulator), Fortnite (battle royale) and Rocket League (competitive sports?).
